Creating routine and habits has become a real growth driven in my daily life. I’m consistently working on how to improve my productivity and be successful women. My evening routine is a big part of my successful habits.
As you know, I’m a full time employee and I manage simultaneously this blog, so every minute of my day is precious. It seems harmless but believe me a few intentional habits can make a big difference in your life 😉
For a long time, my evenings were all about relaxing on my sofa and watching TV, but since few weeks, I swapped my Netflix evening for a productive routine that actually brings me wellbeing and satisfaction before going to bed and helps set myself up for the next day.
Why having an evening routine is important for your productivity?
Before starting creating any new habits, we need to understand why an evening routine is important for our productivity and wellbeing.
1. It helps to improve your sleep
Regular bedtime ritual help us getting a good sleep and having a restful night may stabilize the feeling of satiety, strengthen alertness and the energy level of the next day, optimize memory efficiency and promote good mood. Many benefits are listed in this article from MedicalNewsToday
2. It avoids stress of next day
Establishing a good evening routine can help you to prepare for the next day and reduce your stress levels by promoting organization and planning.
3. Get your brain accustomed to habits
Habits are powerful; it’s something we do regularly without consciously thinking much about it.
Habits save our brainpower for other more important things in our days. You know routines are part of successful people journey to be more productive and focus.
When I go home, I transit totally into “out of work” mode, no email, no work late. My evening routine may change depending on my mood and desires, but here are my 5 usually main habits.
Do something that I love
Evenings are the perfect moment to appreciate what makes me happy!
I take time for a warm bath, sometimes listening to my favorite songs 😉 and then I do my full evening skin care routine; it makes a real difference to my skin health. I usually choose the same products every night; I exfoliate and do my mask (I know, I need to try some homemade recipes). After that, I spritz toner on my face to hydrate it and I finish with my night cream, I switched recently to “Clinique Smart Night” I love this brand and I’m really in love with my skin 😉
Cook homemade dinner
It’s part of my daily Self-care routine, I cook almost every evening with fresh ingredients. I plan all my recipes in the weekend and do my grocery shopping based on this list.
I love sharing this moment with my husband as we both work outside all the day, so we try to spend much time together in the evening.
We are currently in a ketogenic diet – (if you are in, try these 20 dinner recipes) and this is awesome! I have many new recipes to try.
Planning and organization are things I’m obsessed about, ideas comes when I’m relaxing in bath or cooking my dinner. I take advantage and write down all these good ideas in my planner I’m not an evening person that’s why I prefer set my goals and my to-do-list in the morning. If you feel more productive in the evening, you can totally write your to-do-list for tomorrow and develop your action plan.
Journaling and gratitude are also good for your mental health. For myself, I do both in the morning.
I’m so proud of this new habit!! I put my phone away at least 30 minutes before bed, it was so hard to stay committed to this habit but I finally did it and now it’s like natural, I don’t feel need to use it late in the evening I prefer spend my time with my husband or reading new books.
If you really want to create a productive evening routine, I highly suggest you to try to establish this habit
Read a book
“The most important investment you can make is in yourself. Very few people get anything like their potential horsepower translated into the actual horsepower of their output in life. Potential exceeds realization for many people…The best asset is your own self. You can become to an enormous degree the person you want to be.” Said Warren Buffet. You are your biggest investment!
I read at least 2 books a month, few pages every night and I love reading in both French and English. Currently reading “The 48 Laws of Power” but also have some others in my waiting list 😉
As you can see, my evening routine is not busy; I choose habits that pushed me to be relaxed and productive at the same time. Spending time with people you love is very important especially if you far from each other during the day.
